Student to present on Lawrence transit hub proposal

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas and Lawrence communities are invited to attend the 2017 MV Transportation Scholarship Project presentation by Master of Urban Planning graduate student Nikhila Gunda from 4-5 p.m. today, May 2, at the KU Commons in Spooner Hall. A reception will follow.

“This scholarship is a great example of the importance of experiential learning. That is when students apply theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting,” said John Augusto, assistant vice provost for experiential learning.

Gunda's project presentation, “Addressing the Community Interests to Develop a Transit Center in Lawrence,” will include an articulation of the need for a transit center in Lawrence, previous transit center site proposals, stakeholders' views on various locations and recommendations on a future transit center.

2017 marks the third year the MV Transportation Scholarship has been awarded since its inception in 2014. The scholarship is funded by MV Transportation, the private transportation contracting firm that operates Lawrence Transit for the City under contract for Lawrence and KU on Wheels.  MV designed the scholarship to support student initiatives and to give students interested in pursuing careers in public transit more real world experience in the industry.
