Third dean candidate for School of Engineering to present Oct. 31

LAWRENCE — Caroline Schauer will be the third candidate for the University of Kansas School of Engineering dean position to give a public presentation on her vision for the school.

Her presentation will take place 1:30-2:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at the Beren Petroleum Conference Center, Slawson Hall G192. The event will additionally be livestreamed, and the passcode is 326678.

Schauer is currently the interim associate vice provost for faculty advancement at Drexel University.

The final candidate will be announced approximately two days before their campus visit. Their public presentation is scheduled for the following time and location:

Members of the KU community are encouraged to attend each presentation and provide feedback to the search committee.

Schauer first joined Drexel University in 2003 as a faculty member in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. She has since served in various administrative roles at the university, including as the inaugural associate dean of faculty affairs, associate dean of research and faculty affairs and associate dean of research enterprise, all in the College of Engineering.

In addition, Schauer is the Margaret C. Burns Chair in Engineering at Drexel, a seat established to support a faculty member who champions women, minorities and members of the LGBTQ community. She also serves as chair of the Drexel Engineering Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee; president of the Fiber Society; and co-director of the Drexel Women Faculty Association.

Throughout her career, Schauer has received a number of awards, including the Elizabeth Bingham Award from the Association of Women in Science-Philadelphia, Drexel’s Harold M. Myers Award for Distinguished Service and the Drexel Provost’s Fellowships Mentoring Award.

Schauer has more than 65 publications and holds six patents. Her work has been funded by numerous sources, including the National Science Foundation, the Department of Defense, the PA Innovation Fellowship and the U.S. Department of Education.

Schauer earned her bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Beloit College and her master’s degree and doctorate in chemistry from State University of New York at Stony Brook.
