School of Education to host the 2019 Gene A. Budig Teaching Professorship in Special Education Lecture
LAWRENCE — The School of Education announces Jennifer Kurth, associate professor in the Department of Special Education, as the recipient of the 2019 Gene A. Budig Teaching Professorship in Special Education award and featured lecturer.
Kurth will give the lecture “Preparing Educators, Leaders, and Trailblazers” at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, at Room 150 in Joseph R. Pearson Hall. A casual reception will immediately follow the lecture. The event is free and open to the public.
In her presentation, Kurth will discuss preparing teachers to develop the skills and dispositions to be effective inclusive educators for students with low incidence disabilities. The lecture will focus on strategies and scholarship related to teacher preparation.
Kurth's research interests include studying inclusive education for students with low incidence disabilities. She received her doctoral degree in educational psychology from the University of California, Davis. More information about Kurth can be found online.

The Gene A. Budig Professorships and lecture series were established in 1994 by Gene A. Budig, KU’s 14th chancellor, and his wife.
The KU School of Education is a nationally-ranked School, preparing educators and health/sport/exercise professionals as leaders.
