Wed, 12/11/2013 — LAWRENCE – The University of Kansas has named Michael C. Roberts, founding director of the university’s top-ranked clinical child psychology program, to be the new dean of Graduate Studies.
Roberts, who recently stepped down as director of clinical child psychology after 21 years, will assume leadership of Graduate Studies at the beginning of 2014. At the same time, the Office of Research & Graduate Studies will become the Office of Graduate Studies and the Office of Research. Fri, 12/06/2013 — LAWRENCE – The Academy of Healthcare Architecture and the STERIS Corporation have named Sharmin Kader its Arthur Tuttle, Jr. Graduate Fellow in Health Facility Planning and Design. The Academy is part of the American Institute of Architecture.
Kader is developing a post-occupancy evaluation tool for use in hospice facilities. Called a Professional Environmental Assessment Protocol for Hospice tool, it will provide a standardized method for measuring end-of-life care in hospice settings.

Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little announced the creation of the Chancellor’s Doctoral Fellowships today, a dozen of which will be awarded each year. The fellowships will provide a stipend of $25,000 per year and also cover tuition and fees.

Thu, 12/05/2013 — LAWRENCE – The first of three phases to evaluate the historic Panorama exhibit at the KU Natural History Museum will begin with the arrival of a conservator and research team Tuesday, Dec. 10.
Led by Ronald Harvey, Tuckerbrook Conservation LLC of Lincolnville, Maine, the team will conduct a chemical analysis of the Panorama’s animal mounts, plants and backgrounds. Taxidermy, construction materials and other elements inside the Panorama will be evaluated for toxins such as arsenic and mercury. The group will also begin photographing conservation details of the exhibit.
