Fri, 12/07/2018

LAWRENCE — The International Research Society for Public Management (IRSPM) announced they are seeking nominations for the first ever Rosemary O’Leary Prize for outstanding scholarship on women in public administration. Rosemary O'Leary is the Edwin O. Stene Distinguished Professor and director of the School of Public Affairs & Administration at the University of Kansas.

The inaugural award will be given at the society’s annual conference next year in Wellington, New Zealand. In announcing the prize, IRSPM President Jenny Lewis cited O'Leary’s outstanding scholarship, her involvement in founding the Academic Women in Public Administration network and the fact she was a previous recipient of IRSPM’s Routledge Award for Outstanding Contributions to Public Management Research — a lifetime of achievement award in public administration.

The Rosemary O’Leary Prize will go to a person of any gender identity who submitted the best scholarship article on the topic of women in public administration published in a volume year. The article will be judged on the following criteria: “significance of the contribution to scholarship on women in public administration; excellence in writing and communication; and scholarly innovation and rigor.”

“I am thrilled and surprised,” O’Leary said. “The issues surrounding women in public administration have been an interest of mine since early in my career. I cannot think of a greater honor than to have an award in my name for scholarship on that topic. IRSPM is such a well-respected organization in our field; I am truly humbled by their recognition and sincerely thank them for it.”

IRSPM's mission to is to develop and support research about public management and public policy implementation among the international research community and to facilitate the creation and dissemination of new knowledge and understanding across this community.
