Engaging All Students & Teachers conference set for June 7
LAWRENCE — The School of Education at the University of Kansas will host the 12th annual Strategies for Educational Improvement Summer Conference for the region’s PK-12 educators June 7. This year’s conference, “Engaging all Students and Teachers,” will focus on the needs for today’s PK-12 teachers, schools, districts and other education service providers.
The full-day conference will begin at 7:30 a.m. in the BEST Conference Center Lobby at the KU Edwards Campus in Overland Park. The event is free for area educators and open to the public, but online registration is required on or before Thursday, May 23.
This year’s keynote speakers include Randy Watson and Brad Neuenswander, both from the Kansas State Department of Education. Their presentation, "Education – A New Frontier," will cover trends across the state and beyond. In addition to Watson and Neuenswander, James Moffett Jr., professional consultant and owner of JM Educational Consulting, will present "Not These Children. Not Those Children. ALL Children!"
Similar to last year, a series of eight short TED Talk-style presentations will be given by the 2019 Kansas Teachers of the year. The list of presenters:

- Lan Huynh, Wichita USD 259 | "A Child Refugee to a Child’s Refuge"
- Sharon Kuchinski, Leavenworth USD 453 | "Creating Synergy for Collaboration, Progress and Change: Kansas School Redesign"
- T.J. Warsnak, Halstead-Bentley USD 440 | "The Power of Experience."
In addition to the keynote presentations, there will be a variety of breakout sessions through the afternoon for attendees to participate in.
“We are excited about the conference this year,” said Rick Ginsberg, dean of the School of Education. “The keynote speakers are addressing timely topics that will be of interest to all educators, and the participants will have the choice from among 30 afternoon sessions to help support and improve their practice.”
Sponsors of the 2019 conference include the Kansas State Department of Education and the Kansas Alliance for the Arts in Education. Other individuals or organizations interested in serving as a sponsor and/or hosting an exhibitor booth are encouraged to register online by May 23.
