LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas Center for Civic and Social Responsibility will have its 10th annual Matchmakers workshop for faculty and community agencies from 3:30 to 5 p.m. April 11. The theme for this year’s Matchmakers event will be diversity, equity, and inclusion in service learning.

The workshop will begin with a panel discussion about considerations for diversity, equity and inclusion in the classroom, curriculum and service project. Panelists will include Amanda Wright, academic inclusion coordinator for the Office of Multicultural Affairs; Megan Paceley, assistant professor of social welfare; social work junior Meg Fowler, and a representative of one of the community organizations that worked with Dr. Paceley’s students.

Wright utilizes service learning in her course Advocacy for Social Change and works with faculty across campus to advance inclusive practices at KU. Paceley has incorporated service learning into a cultural competency course for social work students, using a social justice framework and collaborating with multiple community partners.

The culmination of the workshop will be a mock speed-dating activity where representatives from community agencies and KU faculty and instructors brainstorm in pairs about potential service learning collaborations.

Space in this workshop is limited to 15 faculty members and 15 community partners. Registration is required: https://ccsr.ku.edu/faculty/matchmakers.
