KU to host celebration of Chancellor Gray-Little on May 4

LAWRENCE — University of Kansas students, faculty and staff are invited to a celebration of Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little on May 4 at the Lied Center.

The event will begin at 5 p.m. with barbecue and ice cream outside the Lied Center, followed by a 7 p.m. concert by Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and soul music legend Booker T. Jones.

The reception and concert are both free to the KU community. Tickets will be required for the concert.

“Chancellor Gray-Little has overseen a transformation of the University of Kansas and guided the institution to unprecedented successes in her eight years here,” said Tim Caboni, vice chancellor for public affairs. “This event will be an opportunity to celebrate her achievements and thank her for her leadership — and also for her to thank everyone who has contributed to KU’s accomplishments in recent years. We invite the entire KU community to join us for some good food, some incredible live music and a chance to wish Chancellor Gray-Little the best as she begins the next chapter in her life and career.”

In September 2016, the chancellor announced she would step down in summer 2017.

“Leading this remarkable institution is a privilege I always will cherish, and I’m grateful to the KU community for believing in our mission,” Gray-Little said. “I look forward to this May 4 event as an opportunity for me to thank everyone who has worked so hard on behalf of our university and to celebrate the achievements of our students, faculty, staff, friends and alumni who support our mission.”
