Event will honor KU’s community partners

LAWRENCE — The Center for Civic and Social Responsibility (CCSR) is hosting the 2016 Service Celebration, which will recognize various community partners in Lawrence and Douglas County that partner with KU faculty and students.

The reception begins at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 7, and will bring together service learning faculty, students and community partners to recognize the multiple community organizations and agencies whose collaboration with KU is critical to making service learning possible. Any local or regional community organization that has hosted KU service learning students or volunteers is welcome to attend

“Community organizations are a critical partner in our students’ KU educational experience,” said John Augusto, director of CCSR. “Our faculty and instructors partner with the leaders in these organizations to create a high-quality learning experience that provides benefit to the community organization.”

To highlight some of these projects, several students will present their service projects at a juried poster session. Students were selected based on the type and quality of project and its work with a community partner. Students will be available to discuss their projects starting at 4:30 pm.

The event is open to the public with more information at www.ccsr.ku.edu/celebration.

The Center for Civic and Social Responsibility fosters mutually beneficial campus-community engagement and promotes service learning as a teaching pedagogy such that community and educational outcomes are met.
