Faculty, staff invited to research-sharing session

Wed, 03/13/2013

LAWRENCE — The fifth Red Hot Research event is scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at The Commons in Spooner Hall.

In a continued effort to bring together scholars from all disciplines, and in response to the call set forth by Bold Aspirations, The Commons offers these research-sharing sessions for faculty and staff.

The format of these sessions is inspired by Pecha Kucha, which features short, slide-based talks that introduce audiences to a topic. Each installment features faculty members, speaking for six minutes each. Audience members are encouraged to connect with the speakers (and each other) through Q&A and over refreshments. The sessions are offered so faculty and staff will find a venue for cross-disciplinary partnering and exploration.

Presenters include:

  • Lisa Friis, associate professor, mechanical engineering: "Biomaterials to Promote Bone Healing"
  • Mike Vitevitch, associate professor of psychology: "Network Science"
  • Nicole Hodges Persley, assistant professor, theatre: "Sampling and Remixing Identity"
  • Glenn Adams, associate professor, psychology: "Identity and Ignorance"
  • Dot Nary, research associate, Research and Training Center on Independent Living: "Accessibility and Social Connectedness"

All research-affiliated faculty and staff are invited to attend.
