Faculty invited to fourth research-sharing session

LAWRENCE — The fourth University of Kansas research-sharing session, now called "Red Hot Research," will be 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at The Commons.

The series is part of a continued effort to bring together scholars from all disciplines and in response to the call set forth by Bold Aspirations.

The format of these sessions is inspired by Pecha Kucha, featuring short, slide-based talks that introduce audiences to a topic. Each installment features six faculty members, speaking for six minutes each. Audience members are encouraged to connect with the speakers (and each other) during breaks. The sessions are intended for faculty members to find a venue for cross-disciplinary partnering and exploration.

Presenters:

  • "Indigenous Development," by Brent Metz, anthropology
  • "Late Medieval Visual Translation," by Anne Hedeman, art history
  • "Still Life with Arranged Flowers," by Yoonmi Nam, visual art
  • "Deep City: Poetics of Urban Space," by Megan Kaminski, English;
  • "Climate Change and Plants," by Joy Ward, ecology and evolutionary biology;
  • "Biomass Conversion," by Susan Williams, chemical and petroleum engineering.

The new title, Red Hot Research, reflects the rapid pace of the event and the relevance of the content.

All research-affiliated faculty/staff are invited to attend. Refreshments are provided.
