LAWRENCE – The University of Kansas has hired a director of institutional compliance to provide independent oversight and coordination of an institutional compliance program. Jeff Chasen, an attorney with more than 20 years experience specializing in compliance, training and prevention programs, began his new duties July 30.

"KU is a comprehensive research institution, and one of the challenges that comes with that is an ever-changing mix of federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations, as well as institutional policies," Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Jeff Vitter said. "Establishing an institutional compliance program provides a valuable resource for the KU community and ensures we both minimize potential violations and effectively manage violations if and when they occur."

Chasen joins KU after 12 years at in2vate llc, a Tulsa, Okla., based international risk management consulting practice, where he most recently served as company president. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in 1984 and juris doctorate in 1987 from George Washington University. He is a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys, the Public Risk Management Association and the Association of Governmental Risk Pools.

"I greatly enjoy the unique culture of higher education, particularly the diverse range of issues faced by a university community," Chasen said. "After 20 years managing programs for a variety of clients, I am excited about working on campus and becoming directly involved with the entire community. My top priority is prevention, and I look forward to putting an effective, responsive program into place at KU."

The director of institutional compliance position reports to the provost through the senior vice provost for academic affairs. The KU Privacy Office will report to Chasen. His office is in Strong Hall, Room 223. His phone number is (785) 864-6204.
