MBA alumnus hired as RedTire program manager

More Information

LAWRENCE – A new program launched in July by the University of Kansas School of Business designed to keep rural businesses open for business will be managed by an MBA alumnus with extensive management accounting experience in international companies.

Denton Zeeman, a 2012 graduate of the school's MBA program, will serve as program manager of RedTire – also known as the Redefining Retirement program – to coordinate the new endeavor's many elements.

While in the graduate program, Zeeman focused his coursework in entrepreneurship and finance. He served as an academic advising assistant and student consultant for Jayhawk Consulting, an initiative within KU's Center for Entrepreneurship, where he worked with two regional organizations on business and technical consulting projects.

Prior to completing his MBA at KU, Zeeman spent 15 years in management accounting and finance positions in energy and media companies in London, where he performed a variety of duties, including managing business financials and reporting, due diligence and budgetary analysis, and assisted with the initial public offering of a major media company, among other responsibilities.

He holds bachelor's degrees in finance, marketing and economics from the University of Kwazulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa, and business economics from the University of South Africa in Pretoria.

The RedTire program will match qualified alumni of Kansas Regents institutions with business owners who are looking to retire.

The program will screen prospective replacement managers and candidate businesses, then identify good matches for purchase opportunities. From there, RedTire will help negotiate the purchase and transition of ownership terms, help establish a business purchase loan, and monitor and help the new owners successfully run and grow their new business.

RedTire aims to work with businesses with annual sales of at least $750,000 and will focus on the core Kansas industries of business, pharmacy, medicine and agriculture.

The program is an initiative of the KU Center for Entrepreneurship, housed at the KU School of Business. It is available to all graduates of Kansas Regents institutions and to current Kansas business owners. Services are free. For details, or to apply for services, visit the organization's website.
