KPR puts the chill on hot weather with 'Christmas in July' programming

More Information

LAWRENCE – Everybody talks about the weather, but finally, Kansas Public Radio is doing something about it. On July 25, the forecast is for cold temps and snow on KPR.

In an effort to cool things off from the blistering temperatures that have scorched the KPR listening area for the last several weeks, KPR will be having "Christmas in July" on Wednesday, July 25.

During all local music programming that day, KPR will play secular holiday music or music with a suitably wintry feel, from Vivaldi's "Winter" Concerto and Vaughan Williams' Sinfonia Antartica to "Baby, It's Cold Outside" and "Winter Wonderland." It won't be as much about Christmas as it is about creating a cold, wintry mix that will make the heat outside just a little more bearable, at least for a day.

"Playing winter music for the day may not affect the heat wave, but hopefully, the sense of fun it creates will take our minds off the weather for the day," classical music director Mark Edwards said. "We hope you enjoy the music."

KPR, licensed to the University of Kansas, broadcasts on 91.5 FM in Lawrence, 89.7 FM in Emporia, 91.3 FM in Olsburg-Junction City, 89.9 FM in Atchison, 90.3 FM in Chanute, and 99.5 FM and 97.9 FM in Manhattan. KPR can be heard on its website. KPR also operates KPR2, a news-talk channel on HD Radio. Those broadcasts can be heard on an HD receiver or on KPR's website.
