KPR wins 13th Station of the Year award
LAWRENCE — Kansas Public Radio stepped up a class and still was judged best radio station in Kansas.
On Wednesday, Aug. 17, KPR was named Station of the Year by the Kansas Association of Broadcasters in the Medium Market category. In previous years, KPR had competed – and won 12 times – in the Non-Commercial Station category. This year, that category was eliminated, and KPR competed against all Medium Market commercial stations in the state. KPR still won.
It's the 13th time KPR has won the top annual prize from the KAB since the award's inception in 1996. That makes 13 times in 16 years. The actual award will be presented to KPR at the KAB’s annual convention in October, which is being held in Lawrence.
In addition, the late Dr. Jim Seaver, longtime host of Opera is My Hobby, will be inducted into this year's class of the KAB's Hall of Fame.
“I think the station award and individual honors show KPR’s excellence across all shows,” said J. Schafer, KPR News Director. “Our news and programming staff, our engineers, our website programmers and our guest commentators were all honored. This shows what a true station effort we put forth every day.”
The station received 10 individual awards in a variety of news and programming categories.
