Central KU departments to open weekend before classes start

LAWRENCE — Several Student Success and other key KU departments will be open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, and Sunday, Aug. 21, to serve new and returning students and their families and help prepare them for the Monday start to fall classes.

“Since this is the first time since 1995 that fall semester classes will start on a Monday, the university wants to ensure that new students and their families can find and use the services they need prior to the first day of classes,” said Kathryn Nemeth Tuttle, assistant vice provost for Student Success.

KU departments that will be open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Aug. 20 and 21 include:
• Admissions
• Academic Achievement and Access Center
• Applied English Center (8 a.m. – 3 p.m., Aug. 20)
• Bursar’s Office
• CLAS Student Academic Services (1 – 5 p.m., Aug. 21)
• Financial Aid and Scholarships
• IT Customer Service Center
• Kansas Union and Burge Union
• KU Card Center
• KU Edwards Campus Student Success and Undergraduate Advising (Aug. 20 only)
• KU Info
• International Student and Scholar Services
• Multicultural Affairs
• New Student Orientation
• Parking and Transit
• Student Housing
• Student Involvement and Leadership Center
• University Advising Center
• University Registrar
• Vice Provost for Student Success

Other departments that will be open with regular hours include:
• Ambler Student Recreation Fitness Center (Noon – 5 p.m., Aug. 20; and noon – 12 a.m., Aug. 21)
• Student Health Services (Noon – 4 p.m., Aug. 20)
• Anschutz and Watson Libraries (10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Aug. 20; and 10 – 12 a.m., Aug. 21)
• Regents Center Library and Computer Labs (8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Aug. 20; and 1 – 5 p.m., Aug. 21)

Personal class schedule tours will also be offered Aug. 20 and 21. Those interested should bring their class schedule and meet at the bronze Jayhawk in front of Strong Hall at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. or 3 p.m. either day.
