LAWRENCE — Outstanding academics, research opportunities, a diverse student body and affordable tuition help the University of Kansas once again earn a place among the best institutions for undergraduate education, according to the Princeton Review.

“The school ‘provides numerous, wonderful opportunities to every student’ through ‘the integration of tradition and new media … to form a new level of excellence,’” the education services company says in the 2012 edition of its annual guidebook, “The Best 376 Colleges.”

The guide also ranked KU in the top 10 for “jock schools” and the top 20 for best college radio and best college newspaper.

In the profile of KU, publishers quoted students who were surveyed regarding their opinions of the university. Students praised the Honors Program, broad course offerings and an active social scene. The profile singled out the David A. Ambler Student Recreation Fitness Center. The city of Lawrence garnered kudos, as well.

“There are enough bands that come through and local concerts to keep things entertaining,” says the profile. “One thing that is great about Lawrence is the city really supports local business[es], so there are several local restaurants, coffee shops, etc. It has a unique feel to it.”

KU also was recognized in Princeton Review’s “Best in the West” regional guide.
