'Rightfully Yours: KU Campus and Community Scholars Consider U.S. Voting Rights' exhibition to open Feb. 6 in Haricombe Gallery

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas Libraries will open a new exhibition in the Haricombe Gallery this February. “Rightfully Yours: KU Campus and Community Scholars Consider U.S. Voting Rights” is developed in conjunction with KU’s centennial celebration of the 19th Amendment.

The exhibition will feature interdisciplinary research from the William Allen White School of Journalism & Mass Communications, the School of Law, the Department of Design and other campus organizations, as well as collections and creative works from the community.

“In addition to the 19th Amendment, scholars at KU generate research and creative works which address the many constitutional voting amendments and acts, as well as the ongoing challenges to the right to vote in our country,” said Sarah Goodwin Thiel, community engagement librarian and exhibits program coordinator. “By selecting and displaying a collection of these materials we hope to deepen the understanding of U.S. voting rights for all visitors to the Haricombe Gallery.”

The opening reception will be Feb. 6 in Watson Library, third floor West. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception, followed by a panel discussion on U.S. voting rights moderated by State Rep. Barbara Ballard.

This event is free and open to the public. Those who plan to attend may RSVP online or to Kelly Spavin at libevents@ku.edu by Jan. 31.

“KU Libraries are honored to open this exhibition, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19thAmendment,” said Kevin L. Smith, dean of libraries. “It is truly a privilege to shine a spotlight on the excellent faculty, student and community scholarship centered around U.S. voting rights.”

Exhibitions in KU Libraries’ Haricombe Gallery are collaborative in nature. They are designed to promote the creative scholarship of the campus community and highlight the strength of the libraries’ collections.

The exhibition will be on display until Aug. 31. Find out more information on KU Libraries’ exhibits.
