Wayne Simien will speak at Fall 2017 Coaches Workshop
LAWRENCE — The Department of Health, Sport & Exercise Sciences at the University of Kansas will work in collaboration with Greenbush, the Southeast Kansas education service center, to host the Fall 2017 Coaches Workshop for the region’s PK-12 coaches and educators.
“No Excuses! No Regrets!” is geared toward understanding today’s student-athletes and how to get the most out of them and the athletic programs in which they participate.
The full-day workshop will begin at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at the Greenbush Resource Center in Eudora. Online or on-site registration is available. The general costs to participate are set up as follows:
- Team registration (five individuals): $175 per team;
- Individual registration: $40 per person;
- Students: free;
- School Improvement Services Program district employee: free.
“We are excited to work in collaboration with Greenbush for the Fall 2017 Coaches Workshop,” said Joe Weir, chair of the health, sport & exercise sciences department. “Both Greenbush and our department are committed to provided cutting-edge information to students, teachers and coaches that enhances the quality of the athletic experience."
The keynote lecture will be given by Wayne Simien, former All-American power forward for the KU men’s basketball team. Simien’s lecture will focus on the effect his relationships with his coaches had not only on his athletic accomplishments but also how those relationships shaped who he is today.
In addition to the keynote lecture, there will be 24 workshop presentations given by various professionals within the KU community, regional school districts and local organizations.
More than 100 people attended the coaches workshop last year, and close to 150 participants are anticipated this fall.
