Donations sought for professional clothing closet

LAWRENCE — The University Career Center is collecting professional attire to stock The P.H.O.G. (The Professional House of Garments), the professional clothing closet at the University of Kansas. The P.H.O.G. provides students access to free professional and business casual attire appropriate for career fairs, interviews and the workplace. Inventory includes suits, blazers, skirts, button-down shirts and more. In January, the UCC is specifically requesting suits of all sizes, colors and styles.

The public may drop off gently worn suits 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday at 206 Summerfield Hall. Donations from the Kansas City area can be dropped off at the front desk of the Regents Center at the KU Edwards Campus. Those hours also are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays. Donations are requested by Jan. 31.

“During the spring semester, our students are seeking a variety of professional experiences that require more formal business attire. Yet they do not have the financial resources to make these purchases,” said David Gaston, vice provost for undergraduate studies. “The clothing closet allows them to focus on preparing for interviews or networking events without worry about what they will wear.”

Additionally, individuals who do not have clothing to donate but still want to support The P.H.O.G. financially can now do so online.

The professional clothing closet is open to all KU students. Students can shop between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays. The University Career Center collects donations at the Summerfield Hall location year-round.
