KU to host national conference on child psychology

LAWRENCE – Nearly 350 scholars from across the nation will come to the University of Kansas from Thursday, Oct. 16, through Saturday, Oct. 18, for the National Conference in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology. 

The conference theme, “Translating Research into Practice” will explore treatment and prevention methods on a range of topics in child, adolescent and family mental health including anxiety and OCD, ADHD, suicidal behavior, bipolar disorder, depression, health care reform and more. The conference will include keynote addresses, topical reviews and poster presentations.

Students and professionals from across the country attend the conference to learn, network and socialize with others in the field. The conference provides up-to-date information on research and evidence-based practice and specific learning experiences. Interested participants can register online.

This biennial conference first started in 1992 and has been held in Lawrence ever since. The conference is co-sponsored by the KU Clinical Child Psychology Program and the Society of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology of the American Psychological Association. 

The selection of KU as a conference co-host and site is reflects the strengths of the Clinical Child Psychology program. It is one of only a few clinical programs in the country that specializes in children, adolescents and families. The program is frequently cited in training literature as a model program in the field and is often recognized for its recruitment, selectivity, diversity, retention and outcomes.

The Clinical Child Psychology program is one of the more than 50 departments, programs and centers in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences.
