Dole Institute to host pre-election panel on 2014 Kansas races

LAWRENCE — The Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas will host a pre-election panel featuring expert faculty and journalists to examine the current Kansas gubernatorial and senatorial campaigns.

“Center Stage: Kansas Elections 2014” will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, at the Dole Institute. This event is free and open to the public.

The discussion will focus on the Kansas political environment, what has caused the highly competitive elections and what is likely to happen on Election Day. This is the first time the Dole Institute has held a Kansas pre-election panel since the Institute began in 2003.

“With national attention turned on key races in Kansas, a special pre-election discussion seemed like a must this year,” said Dole Institute director Bill Lacy. “Experts on state politics will provide a lot of fascinating insight just a week out from the elections.”

Panelists include Bob Beatty and Mark Peterson, professors of political science at Washburn University; Ed Flentje, professor of political science, Wichita State University; Ann Gardner, editorial page editor, The World Company; Burdett Loomis, professor of political science, KU; Chapman Rackaway, professor of political science, Fort Hays State University, and Michael Smith, professor of political science, Emporia State University.

The Dole Institute of Politics is dedicated to promoting public service, civic engagement and politics.  It is located on KU’s west campus and, in addition to the Robert J. Dole Archive & Special Collections, offers free public programming with world-renowned guest speakers on a variety of topics that intersect politics, as well as opportunities for students of all ages.
