LAWRENCE – New diversity, equity and inclusion efforts in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at the University of Kansas will be the focus of the inaugural Student Summit hosted by the College.

The summit will take place from 4 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Jan. 26 at The Commons. It will be live-streamed for viewers at the Edwards Campus and others who are unable to attend. The livestream will be available at http://college.ku.edu/diversity-equity-inclusion.

In early fall 2016, the College introduced its plan for diversity, equity and inclusion. The plan covers many areas relating to student success and well-being. Students are encouraged to attend the summit to learn more about these initiatives and to discover opportunities to become involved in efforts to build more diverse, equitable and inclusive working and learning environments.

The summit will be led by Carl Lejuez, dean of the College; Jennifer Hamer, associate dean for diversity, equity and inclusion in the College; and Clarence Lang, chair and professor of African and African-American studies.

“We’ve had difficult conversations on our campus and have heard from many students their concerns about inequities. We want to turn the conversation to action now – what we’re doing and how students can be leaders alongside us in this work. I look forward to starting this conversation with students about how to move forward together,” Hamer said.

The Student Summit is open to all students at KU. Please email collegedei@ku.edu or call 785-864-3661 with any questions or for disability accommodations.

The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is the broadest, most diverse academic unit at KU. It is home to more than 50 departments, programs and centers, as well as the School of the Arts, School of Literatures, Languages & Cultures and School of Public Affairs & Administration.
