University community mourns death of molecular biosciences staff member Brian Van Schmus
LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas community is mourning the death of Brian Van Schmus, storeroom supervisor for the Department of Molecular Biosciences. Van Schmus, 56, died Jan. 22. He joined KU in 2018.
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the death of Brian Van Schmus, who worked as a supervisor in KU’s Department of Molecular Biosciences,” said Chancellor Douglas A. Girod. “On behalf of the entire university, I express my sincere condolences to his family, friends and all who knew him at KU.”
Van Schmus was also a graduate of KU, where he was a member of the KU marching band and Acacia fraternity. He received a bachelor's degree in political science in 1986.
A memorial service will be planned later this year.
