KU Endowment board members elect new vice chair, trustee

LAWRENCE — At the Oct. 25 annual meeting of the KU Endowment board of trustees, the board elected M.D. Michaelis as vice chair and Lorie Bowman as a trustee.

M. D. “Mike” Michaelis, of Wichita, received a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1968 and a master’s degree in finance in 1969, both from the University of Kansas. In 2004, the School of Business awarded him the Distinguished Business Alumni Award.

Michaelis is the president of Emprise Financial Corporation. In 1995, he was appointed by Gov. Bill Graves to a three-year term on the Kansas State Banking Board and was elected to the KU Endowment board in 2003.

Lorie Bowman graduated from KU in 1980 with a bachelor’s degree in environmental design. Bowman and her husband, Brent, split their time between homes in Prairie Village and Manhattan, Kansas. She is a principal architect and president of BBN Architects Inc. in Kansas City, Missouri, and Manhattan.

Bowman is a member of the School of Architecture & Design Advisory Board and a former advisory board member for Women Philanthropists for KU (WP4KU). She is a Life member of the KU Alumni Association. The Bowmans support the School of Architecture & Design and WP4KU.

KU Endowment is the independent, nonprofit organization serving as the official fundraising and fund-management organization for KU. Founded in 1891, KU Endowment was the first foundation of its kind at a U.S. public university.
