Natural History Museum announces fall programming
LAWRENCE — New programs for the community and University of Kansas students are on the menu for fall at the KU Natural History Museum.
The museum, located in Dyche Hall, has more than a dozen events scheduled throughout the fall, including the Fall BugBlitz, in which community members, with the help of KU entomology students, can find and identify insects active at dusk and early evening. The Fall BugBlitz will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 14 in South Park.
Discovery Days will be once a month in October, November and December. These events have hands-on activities for all ages on a variety of topics and are held on Sundays or on days when Lawrence Public Schools are not holding classes. The first Discovery Day will be Oct. 14 when attendees will explore the plants and animals of the deciduous forest biome.
The popular Science on Tap series will be back this fall. Learn about remarkable explorations, research and discoveries by KU scientists while enjoying a local brew. The series will be at Lawrence’s Free State Brewing Company and Kansas City’s Bier Station. The first Science on Tap will be “No Guts, No Glory: Exploring the Fascinating World of Animal Parasites in Sri Lanka” by Kirsten Jensen at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Bier Station,120 East Gregory Blvd., Kansas City, Missouri.
The museum will host a Drop-in-and-Draw event from 5-7 p.m. Nov. 1 featuring the historic Dyche Hall grotesques. The public will have the opportunity to sketch and learn about the grotesques alongside artists Karl Ramberg and Laura Ramberg.
