Students, staff invited to brown bag lunches to discuss Kansas legislative session

LAWRENCE — Students and staff are invited to a series of brown bag lunches to discuss the 2018 Kansas legislative session.

The lunches will be hosted by Kelly Reynolds, director of state relations for the University of Kansas. The first lunch is Dec. 1 and will preview the upcoming session, which begins in January. There will be a total of five lunches through May.

Each lunch will include time for questions and conversation. Coffee and soft drinks will be provided.

All lunches are noon to 1 p.m. Click on each date below to download it to your calendar.

In 2016, KU’s budget was cut $10.7 million. In 2017, lawmakers restored about $3.3 million of that. This session, KU’s top legislative priority will be working with lawmakers to restore the remaining $7.4 million – essentially getting the university’s funding back to 2016 levels. For additional data, fact sheets and details about KU’s efforts in Topeka, visit the university’s State Relations page.

KU students, employees, alumni and supporters are encouraged to join Jayhawks for Higher Education, the university’s higher education advocacy group headed by the KU Alumni Association. Jayhawks for Higher Education members receive updates throughout the legislative session, are notified of legislative events in their area, and are called upon at key moments during the session to contact legislators on behalf of KU. Members can also take advantage of the Jayhawks for Higher Education app.
