Registration open for Children's Swim Program at Robinson Center
LAWRENCE – The Department of Health, Sport, & Exercise Sciences at the University of Kansas has opened online registration for the Fall 2016 Children’s Swim Program at Robinson Center.
Taught by Red Cross water safety instructors, the Children’s Swim Program at KU provides children and families a fun, safe learning and swimming environment. The program is open to all ability levels for children ages 6 months and older and has been serving the greater Lawrence community since 1990.
Swim participants register for a 10-lesson session, and the 45-minute lessons are Saturday mornings during the fall season. Cost to participate is $50 for the first child, then $40 per child in the same family.
“We have a lot of pride in the long tradition of our Children’s Swim Program. The department provides a wonderful opportunity to participate in swim lessons for our faculty and staff members’ children, as well as the greater Lawrence community,” said Bernie Kish, facilities director of Robinson Center. “Our lifeguards truly enjoy the interaction and are dedicated to providing first-rate learning experiences in a safe environment.”
In addition to the Children’s Swim Program, faculty members within the Department of Health, Sport, & Exercise Sciences offer a variety of other camp and community activities that allow community members to become and/or maintain physically active lifestyles:
- Hawk Fitness Academy (Lawrence), directed by Trent Herda;
- Dr. Bob Run 5K & Kids Fun Run Event (Lawrence), directed by Bernie Kish; and
- Sports Skills & Fitness School (Lawrence and Overland Park), directed by Leon Greene and Ashley Herda
“The university is built upon a mission that strives to build healthy communities, and our department’s work very much aligns with that mission,” said Joseph Weir, chair of the health, sport, & exercise sciences department. “The Children’s Swim Program offers our community’s young children an opportunity to learn beginner and advanced swimming skills right here on campus.”
