Chancellor to be interviewed in Women's Leadership Lecture

LAWRENCE— Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little will be interviewed by Deanell Reece Tacha, Duane and Kelly Roberts Dean of the School of Law at Pepperdine University, at the 2014 Emily Taylor and Marilyn Stokstad Women’s Leadership Lecture. The evening is sponsored by the Hall Center for the Humanities.

“An Evening with Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little” will take place at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 24, at Woodruff Auditorium in the Kansas Union. The event is free and open to the public, and a reception will follow.

In the interview, Gray-Little will reflect upon her inspiring career as a woman who has held many leadership positions. Before arriving at KU, Gray-Little held several positions of importance at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, including executive vice chancellor and provost.

In fall 2013, Gray-Little was named to the executive committees of the Association of American Universities and the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities. She was one of four university leaders selected to represent the APLU at a White House summit on math and science education in January 2010, and she is also on the board of trustees for the Online Computer Library Center, an international organization dedicated to expanding public access to information and research.

Gray-Little earned her master’s degree in psychology and a doctorate in clinical psychology from St. Louis University. Her primary research interests included crosscultural psychology, the relation of social and cultural factors to personality, and psychopathology.

Tacha will conduct the interview. Tacha, a KU alumna, is a retired judge who served on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. She is now dean of the Pepperdine School of Law.

The Emily Taylor and Marilyn Stokstad Women’s Leadership Lecture is named for two women who were prominent leaders at KU. The fund they established supports lectures by prominent women on women’s leadership issues. Contributions to the fund can be made through KU Endowment.
