KU to host final round of Campus Master Plan open forums

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas will host a pair of open forums Thursday, Oct. 3, to provide information and answer questions about the developing Master Plan for the Lawrence and Edwards campuses. The KU and Lawrence communities are invited to attend to learn more progress being made toward a final plan and provide feedback.

A morning forum will take place from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., and an evening forum will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Both forums will take place on the fourth floor of the Kansas Union.

The final round of open forums is an opportunity to share progress during the concept refinement phase. Those who attend will have an opportunity to learn about the goals and priorities being established for the master plan, and how those goals and priorities will guide the creation of the plan based on the data, analysis and different options.

The Forums will include individual presentation areas around the following areas:

  • Facilities and projects
  • Land use
  • Multidisciplinary research
  • Student life
  • Sustainability and resource management
  • Transportation and access

Since the master plan of George Kessler and Henry Wright in 1904, the university has undertaken a comprehensive planning process only four times, most recently when the current plan was completed in 1997. KU has contracted with Hanbury Evans Wright Vlattas + Company to provide a broad range of services in developing an updated plan.

Earlier open forums took place in February and April. At the first round of open forums KU staff and consultants made presentations and had conversations about the data collection phase.  At the second round of open forums, the focus was on the analysis and options phase.
