KCK schools superintendent to speak at KU

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas Department of Special Education has announced that Cynthia Lane, superintendent of schools for the Kansas City, KS Public School System, will deliver the keynote address at the Leadership for Learning Seminar.

The event will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, in Room 150 of Joseph R. Pearson Hall.

With highly focused leadership, non-negotiable targets for achievement and instruction, and a singular goal driving all the work of the system from preschool to graduation, KCKPS strives to be one of the top school districts in the nation.

Lane, superintendent, will share the journey of KCKPS, which has gone from being a failing district in the 1990s, to today, when they are one of only three Kansas districts to voluntarily raise their standards and expectations for performance to levels that demonstrate true college and career readiness. Lane will explore the critical features of the district’s reform work, and specifically address the kind of district leadership that is essential to attain true educational reform. Attendees will leave the session with a clear sense of what it takes to fulfill the KCKPS mission: “Inspiring Excellence:  Every Grown-up, Every Child, Every Day.”
